OUR HISTORY

Templestowe Baptist Church dates back to 1978, when Blackburn North Baptist Church identified Templestowe as a potential growth area, and purchased a plot of land in adjacent East Doncaster.

In the following year a group of families began meeting each Sunday for worship in the nearby Onemda community facility, and a year after that we called our first pastor, Graham Neilson.

In 1983 we moved our worship services to Milgate Primary School, and we also made the decision to initiate the development of our land, with plans for both a church building and a large retirement community.

1988 was a significant year, as we marked the official opening of both the new church and the Templestowe Orchards  retirement village.

In 1997 we launched a new Cantonese ministry, and this has since expanded to incorporate a Mandarin fellowship.

In 2013 we sold Templestowe Orchards to Baptcare, and work started on the contemporary new church building where we have been meeting since 2016.

Today we are a vibrant, multi-cultural community of believers, encompassing English, Cantonese and Mandarin congregations, actively seeking God’s heart for His kingdom’s work in our community and beyond.

We gather on Sundays for worship together, and also promote many other activities for our church community.

Our vision is to see a positive, exciting, Bible-based ministry where people of different ages and cultures will share stories of God’s grace and be equipped to serve Christ, day by day, wherever He sends us, with faithfulness.
